Starting a new quilt...

Atlantic Canada nearly blew off the map last night! What a wild, stormy night. I am still here this morning and ready to get to work on choosing what scraps I will use for my next scrappy quilt. First, I needed to get all my scraps in one go-to place, instead of strewn and stuffed and piled wherever. Mostly I needed them out of my sewing room.  Here is a pic of what my Scrap Corner looks like now. All tidied up. This is a corner of the open area at the bottom of the basement stairs that leads into my quilt-making room.  Yes, I am in the basement and I have taken over. RetiredHub is going to give up his RetiredHubCave and knock out the wall between his room and mine so that I can creep further into the basement.  Can't wait for that!
The other end of the open area, all organized.  Now I have a lot more room in my sewing area.

Now, onto my newest scrappy quilt.....As I was surfing around the quilty blogs  earlier this month, something exciting caught my scrappy eye. The quilt design is called "Soul Searching" by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsession.  But, I wasn't on Kathy's blog.  I was on Kevin the Quilter's blog.  I fell in love with his rendition of Kathy's quilt, he calls his quilt "Soul Mates" and it is a wedding quilt for friends.   Here is Kevin's Quilt...isn't it a scrappy delight!! (I have Kevin's permission to use his photo) Thanks Kevin and have fun with the mystery quilt.
So, I immediately ordered Kathy's book  and this quilt moved to the top of "The List". Because I am not participating in Bonnie's mystery quilt this year, I needed to get started on something scrappy, something I just adore, so as not to regret my decision to not join in this year.  I will also be making another different quilt at the same time as this one but I will save that info for another time.  I need to get cutting!

PS...The first meeting of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild happened last night.  I am super excited about becoming a member and spending time with other quilty nuts, like me.  Our show and tell was very inspiring.  Lots of amazing quilts are being made in our area.  Can't wait for our first sew-in day.

Have a quilty day!

  2. That's quite the stash, Linda!! Wow!! Mine fits in 2 totes. I know this, because I just packed it up to store away for the winter. (Okay, maybe a couple of baskets full, too :) Glad you didn't blow away during the night. This old house creaked and groaned and kept me awake most of the night, the power was out when I got up, and I forgot and flushed the toilet, messing up the pump in the well. It wasn't a very good morning!

  4. oh dear, I started making some blocks similar to those a few years back and then forgot about them. Will have to search them out and see how far I got. I'm thinking they are scrappy, but really can't recall. They are probably a Judy Martin pattern. hmmm
