An Inspiration

This is a pic of a log cabin quilt called "Sunshine and Flowers" by Carol Ann Matthews of Canton, Michigan featured in the March 1996 edition of "Quilting Today" magazine

When my quilting buddy passed away over a year ago this was one of her UFOs. She had made the blocks and had started the applique on two of the blocks. Her family asked me to sew the blocks together to make the quilt top and then they had a border added and had it handquilted by a church group. So nice that it was finished and given to a family member. I just loved this quilt and thought I would make it for myself and since I am in the String Mode I thought I would re-create it in strings. I was given a lot of my quilting buddy's scraps so I used them in the quilt making it a memory quilt. I used a solid yellow to mimic the yellow chain in the original. It turned out great and I love it. I won't be doing the applique but I will add a scrappy tone-on-tone border.

  3. I love it. The family must have been so thankful that you put it together for them. You can't beat a classic design. Both are just sweet.
