This past Saturday I spent time at the
Maritime Modern Quilt Guild's Sew-In Day. I had a great time gabbing and sewing, my two favourite things. I worked on making more selvedge blocks for a future unknown quilt. I was truly inspired by all the projects in progress and just the plain old love of quilting. I kept the momentum going when I got home that day and started working on finishing up a few projects so I can start a few more new ones!
I decided on the quilting design for my little "Slices" piece. A simple wavy stitch approx, 1 1/2" apart did the trick. I used a Sulky Blendables #30 weight variegated thread in colour No. 4006 Autumn. I prefer this thread because the colour changes are close together than other brands I have tried so you get a much subtler look. I just love how this range of oranges looks on each of the fabrics, especially on the blue/purple row. Bit hard to tell from the photo, but I just love the look. I used a Superior Titanium 90/14 topstitch needle. Still not sure what I am making with this 25" square but will decide on that soon.

Yesterday, I got to work sewing up the units in "Basic Puzzle" and I had a big helping hand from RetiredHub. I set my sewing machine up next to my design wall in the hallway where I had the pieces of this quilt. He matched up the units, one by one, passed them to me, I sewed the seam, passed it back to him and then he put them back on the wall in the correct order so as to not get them mixed up. (120 seams) On my own, that would have been a lot of getting up and down. It was such a great help and now I only have to sew the 15 rows together and the top is done. I will do that tomorrow. This one will be fun to quilt I think.

Hope you had some time to quilt today!
I am linking up the
Needle and Thread Network, stop by and check out all the Canadian quilty goodness.
that's it. you have the best quilty husband ever! Love the quilting on your slices, perfect!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Adrienne - that is one wonderful hubby you've got there! Love the puzzle quilt!
ReplyDeleteI really like Slices. Was wondering if RetiredHub is available for rent? He could make a killing as design wall man :) The up and down, accidental turning around of the pieces on the way to the sewing machine, would be heaven to have a helper!
ReplyDeleteYour slices is coming along really well...good choice of the wavy line for quilting! As for your puzzle quilt, what a great way to work together to ensure the quilt gets put together correctly...super idea!
ReplyDeleteWow. That is one great helper you had there and it is looking great.
ReplyDeleteYou're a hoot! I can't believe RetiredHub handed you quilt pieces all day. Did he drop grapes in your mouth periodically and fan you with palm fronds too? :) Both projects are coming along beautifully! Do I spy some Kona Leaf in that Basic Puzzle?
ReplyDeleteLovely projects and lovely husband! Are you planning on keeping him?
ReplyDeleteAnd off she goes!! You amaze me! I'm so glad you are enjoying this new group. You are sewing circles around me!! I just love your header!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great. I luv your header. If I'd been getting up and down I'd have reversed something! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like how you quilted the slices quilt. It's subtle and yet, just right. Does RetiredHub, rent himself out? There are days that his kind of help would be great....lucky you.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, and those wavy lines complement the triangles very nicely. Your hub's help will certainly inspire a new point on my daughter's "things the man of my dreams must have/do" list.
