I have a start and a finish for 2014. I came across a baby panel that I bought a few years ago and thought I would quickly make it up and give it to my son to give to his friend who just had a baby recently. I sandwiched a thin muslin, Hobbs 20/80 and the panel and did some freemotion quilting around the teddy bear. At that point, I added a prewashed piece of a baby flannel, right sides together with the sandwich and stitched around the edges, leaving an opening to turn it right side out. After that, I did some straight line stitching to hold the rest of it down, as well as stitching about a 1/4" in from the edge all the way around, closing the opening at the same time. It is more like a comforter than a quilty quilt. It was fun making this for a little someone. There are no babies in my extended family so I rarely get the chance to make one.
I have also been working on cutting out and sewing together another project from
my picks in the
Library Project Challenge. This is called "Slices" from "Scrap Republic" by Emily Cier, My version will be smaller. After sewing the strip sets together, I decided to cut my triangles using the ruler set that I already had. The "Tri-Rec Tool". Love it! The matching and sewing together is made so easy and precise since the ends are already notched to make everything fit perfectly. This could be a wallhanging or a large cushion. It will end up about 24".
I have also been working on my crazy block QAL (very slowly). I find it relaxing, so I save it for times when I need to relax and slow down. This is my progress so far.
