What's Happening!

Three weeks since my last post! Yikes.
I haven't been blogging much lately, seems I spend more time on Facebook,  but I have been sewing a lot.

First, some charity quilting.  My lovely little guild,
Maritime Modern Quilt Guild, has committed to making quilts this year for our local children's hospital, the IWK.  The common theme is a 9"unfinished square in a square block., any colour, any quilters cotton fabrics.  We encourage everyone to use their stash. I have made 48 blocks and will sew them into a top and quilt it as my contribution.

Another initiative I am participating in is called #87pillows.  Our guild member, Jeanette, has spearheaded the collection of 87 x 14" handmade envelope backed pillows to donate to a local nursing home.  A pillow for each of the 87 residents.  Something to brighten up their rooms.  Below is my contribution.

Next, I covered a TV table with some insulated batting and a home dec weight Philip Jacobs fabric to make a portable ironing surface to take with me to my guild's retreat next month.

I also make an awesome new bag for myself.  It is called the
Sew Together Bag.  It was a bit of challenge for me so I love it even more,

It holds everything I need to take to retreat! (the yellow duckie is a tape measure)

A bit of sewing for my great-nephew (that's him in my header pic)  A taggie blanket made with blue flannel camouflage (by request) and minky.  So soft and cuddly.

I joined The Mighty Lucky Quilting Club this past January.   Each month a new skill .that focuses on challenging you with design concepts in the quilt making process is presented.  This is February's challenge - minimalism.  I call mine "L's for Linda" .  I loved working on this concept and hope to make more minimal quilts in the future.

I made a Sugar Free Quilted Designs pincushion as a gift for my Quilty Sister, who is visiting right now.

I needed a new guild nametag.  I was inspired by my membership card and wanted to make something that would hold it safely and  showcase it.  I attached a vinyl pocket to hold it securely on an improv curved pieced design using my guild colours in Kona.  Thanks to my sweet friend Karen who blogs @ KaHolly for thinking of me while she visited QuiltCon last year and brought me  home this momento  which works perfectly for hanging my new nametag.

I made this iron caddy to take to retreat too.  Love it~  Thanks to my sweet friend, Lesley, who blogs @ The Cuddle Quilter for the piggie fabric. Just need a button or two to hold things together for toting.  It lays out flat as an ironing surface too.  It is from the pattern by Sisters Common Thread

I am working on two larger quilt projects at the moment but I will have to wait to show you how things are going with those.  One is a surprise quilt and the other is still in the design stage.

I hope you had a lovely weekend and that you had time to work on your projects too.

  14. oh, you have been busy in your absence. I like it when everything clicks and finished projects just seem to fly out the back of the sewing machine (if only that were true). Thanks for the inspiration.
