My fabric money teacup is almost full again. ( with a little help from Revenue Canada) and I will be on the road and heading to beautiful, beautiful Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. It's time for the 2nd Annual Mahone Bay Quilters Guild Yard Sale. I also heard that this is in conjunction with the 100 mile Yard Sale. I will be on the lookout for sewing machines! Also, another plus, Suttles and Seawinds is having a yard sale as well. Check out their Facebook page for all the info. Needless to say, I am very excited about all this, just wish a few of my favourite quilters could be there too. But I will be thinking about them and maybe there will be a scrapbag or four coming home with me to share.
Knitty Sister and #1 Daughter are coming along with me. Girls day out! Knitty Sister will hit the Yarn Shop and gift shops and probably the shoe store. #1 Daughter knows what I like and she will be my fabric scout going ahead of me to make sure I see what I need to see. We are on a time limit and have to be back in the city for a certain time so time is of the essence to make sure we don't miss a thing.
Now for some quilty news.....A new fabric shop is opening in Halifax, on Robie Street, in August! That is such great news. It will be carrying modern fabrics which I know that sewing/quilting enthusiasts in Halifax area will appreciate.
It is called Patch Halifax. Here is the link to the Facebook page. They are still under construction but LIKE it so you can get updates.
Also, I have been working on my Deer wallhanging for my Dad's birthday.
getting the freemotion quilting finished up. Here's a closeup of the swirling I am doing in the scrappy blue sky background. I chose a light grey Aurifil 50# for top and bottom. I still have to do the deer's face and the little orange (Kona kumquat) pieces of antler. I have some variegated Sulky that I want to try using in those spaces. I will have this all finished and ready for Show and Tell at the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild meeting on May 7. I will be doing a little demo on free-motion quilting, Linda-Style! By that, I mean, "No rules", "It is what it is" and "I love it!" . Hope that if you are in the area, and you love modern quilting, you can stop by and check out our guild. We are all about having fun and sharing our passion (I mean obsession) with fabrics and making quilts.
Hope you are having a quilty day.
have a wonderful day in Mahone Bay - wish I was there! I bought the fabric for my first quilt from Suttles and Seawinds some 30 years ago now! That is fabulous that there will be a quilt shop in Halifax - definitely will be checking it out on my next trip "home". Have fun doing your FM demo at the next MMQG mtg. It is an obsession, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fun day. The sun is shining nicely so a great day for a drive to beautiful mahone bay !
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteYour planned trip sounds so much fun. We have never seen such a thing as a guild yard sale, wow!!! Just the idea is intriguing, wish I lived closer, have lots of fun!!
It sounds like you have your treasure hunting organized with military precision. It's an amazingly beautiful day to be outside so enjoy yourself. I'll want to here all about it and the Guild meeting. Your Dad's quilt is turning out beautifully or should I say very manly.
ReplyDeleteHope you had fun in Mahone Bay! I definitely considered a road trip on this sunny Saturday!
