I am a native Nova Scotia girl. My beautiful Sister moved to Calgary from Nova Scotia in the early 80's. She met and married a boy from Dartmouth N. S. He worked for Shell Oil and since then they had three beautiful boys who now range in age from 23 to 20. Gorgeous boys. All living in Calgary now. Two work for oil companies and one is still at university. My sister and her husband now live in Doha, Quatar. They have just moved there from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They have all been home for Christmas here in Nova Scotia. The first time in 15 years that all my siblings and my parents have been together. It's been crazy hectic but so much fun to have them all home. I am hoping to have all the family together tomorrow at my house but it may be cancelled due to the impending snow storm. We are hoping it will be mostly rain but that is just denial!
My sister, Betty, who I refer to as my Quilty Sister on my blog, brought me the most amazing Christmas gifts. In early December she visited Bali on a whirlwind tour and managed to spend about an hour at the Batik shop She brought me 39, yes 39, one metre cuts of batiks. She only had an hour to shop or I am sure she would have done way more damage there She also purchased 39 metres for herself. On her way to Nova Scotia from Malaysia, she stopped in Calgary to meet up with her boys and the lady at Customs at the airport saw all the batiks in her carry-on and freaked out and wanted to buy it from her. She asked how much she paid and my sister told her that it only cost 2.00 a metre and she freaked out again and started to pull money from her pocket and wanted to buy it from her but she told her that her sister (Me) would kill her if she sold it to her. My sister also had a pair of Scissoroos from Australia in her carry-on, she had totally forgotten about them being there and begged the Customs people not to take them and they were very sweet and made concessions forher
I love them so much.
My Knitty Sister, who lives close by, knitted me the most beautiful shawl. It is from a pattern called "Lady of the Forest" by
Ilga Lega. I dont have a nice photo ye,t so take a look at the link to see what it looks like. I will post a pic soon as I get someone to take one of me wearing my new shawl. She also made me a Sock Monkey Cup Cozy
. I just love it and I had so many compliments today at the Market as I walked around with my coffee.
I have the best Sisters ever!
I have more to show but enough for now. We are all going to watch the Mooseheads whip the Cape Breton Eagles at the Metro Centre. My nephews from Calgary are missing their NHL Calgary Flames so much. Mooseheads hockey is pretty good though.
$2 a metre?? What a fabulous deal! Lucky, lucky you!
ReplyDeleteLucky you on the batiks! I love them too. The mug cosy is cute - my sister is also a knitter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice sister you have. Even though it was cheap, 78 metres of fabric must have weighed a TON! It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. I hope you don't get too much snow to continue to enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteGreat to read about your family. What wonderful fabrics...lots of quilt ideas with those batiks! And the scissors are beautiful, and the monkey adorable! Have fun with your new toys!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your family and those gifts are absolutely fabulous. Enjoy them as I'm sure you will.
