"Tumbling Cubes" from the book "Modern Basics by Amy Ellis" |
I am really happy with the end result of this quilt. I made this 72" x 96" quilt in just over a month, which is a record for me. It didnt even get to say hello to others on the UFO pile! Alexander will really love it, I am sure, but he is a man of few words. The photos dont really show the colours well. I was skeptical of so much grey but I must say it is very nice. I pieced a strip of leftover squares from the front to make the backing wide enough. I machine quilted wavy lines every six inches. I used a medium grey Aurifil 50wt and a Superior Titanium 90/14 needle and I did not experience any trouble at all. I did however, have a bit of puckering in the middle but I am OK with that. I lessened the presser foot pressure and that made all the difference. I used the turquoise for the binding and added a label so it is now ready to be given to my beautiful son. I hope he will let me take a pic of him with his new quilt so that I can post it on my blog. He probably wont...

What will I work on next?? I think I better just finish the handquilting on my autumn leaves applique quilt. It is so close to being finished.
I really like this Linda....so fresh
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned that it was a grey background fabric. I thought it was white. Very nice!! Good job getting it done so quickly!!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt...he will love it! You did a wonderful job of quilting!
ReplyDeleteLove all the negative space in this wonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt must feel really good to see it finished. Good work, in such a short time.
ReplyDeleteI love grey. It is by far my favourite of the neutrals, and you've used it in such a lovely way here. The negative space is really well done.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! It came out just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on such a fast finish. Tell your son he can have it only if you can take a picture of him (wish that would work with my kids, sigh).
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Very minimalist!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I love the bits of color on the pale gray background.
