Another week has passed by. I did make progress, so that's a good thing. I finished hand-appliquing the ninth block of "My Reminiscense" wallhanging. I attached the nine-patch sashings, which I had made beforehand. I was so glad that I had prepared those in advance. I sewed them all on without any trouble. I still have a narrow dark brown border and a muslin border to go on and then ready for quilting. I will bind it in a dark brown. I am hoping to hang it in my livingroom.
I am still waiting for my thread order to arrive, but here is a peek at the progress on the FMQ on my RRCB. This quilt is an absolute beast! It is so heavy..it has a ton of seams. The string blocks are very susceptible to stretching .I wish now that I would have saved this one for handquilting. I am not at all happy with the way things are going with it. I hope I will love it when it is complete. Chalk it up to experience I guess.
It was a sunny day here today except when the fog kept drifting in and out. Went for a walk in the Halifax Public Gardens. Here are a few pics. Things are starting to bloom.
your quilt is looking great! I like the idea of the brown border and then brown binding. So sorry to hear about the stretching on the one your are currently quilting - that can be disheartening. But, you are right - we live and learn! Won't be long until I can go for a stroll through the Public Gardens too! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteYour wall hanging quilt looks amazing and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished - sounds like it will look totally stunning. Hope the other quilt starts behaving itself for you - I haven't done much fmq. It is something on my "yes I will one day.....but...." All the best with it.
ReplyDeleteYour applique is just beautiful! I love your 9-patch sashing. What a wonderful idea. What is an RRCB?
ReplyDeleteI love the applique! I am contemplating a strippy quilt soon, so I will keep in mind the stretch bit! Maybe use light interfacing to sew the strips onto? Might that prevent stretching?
ReplyDeleteYour appliqué work is fabulous! The gardens look lovely too. I wish I could go there. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your other quilt. It's so tough to get to a finish when it starts to go bad. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that is so beautiful! I can't imagine the work involved!
ReplyDeleteNice work Linda...I can't imagine FMQ something that size. I cus my table runners....ooops; did I say that?? Those gardens are a beauty; I toured them every day when I had my mother-in-law at the hospital there in 2009. Lovely place to just sit and relax; forget the stress of hospitals.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Linda , good for you tackling a quilt that size to machine quilt , that would be a total nightmare for me . Great job!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the detail in your quilts! I would never have the patience to see them through to the end. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour appliqué quilt is beautiful. There's so much work in the pieced sashings!! Oh, boy! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat pieced sashing is great, and a good idea to make it in advance!
ReplyDeleteLinda, it's beautiful! Wow, your applique is awesome!
