A Finish for Me.

On Nov. 12, Libs Elliott came to visit my lovely little guild, the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild and teach our members how to make her Weight of Love Quilt.  I chose to mimic Libs' colour scheme and I was able to pull all the Kona shades from my stash.  If it wasnt the exact same shade she chose, then it was on either side of that colour on the Kona colour card for the most part.  The cutting was easy using Jaybird's Hex'N More ruler.  The top is comprised of hexagons, half hexagons and equilateral triangles sewn together to make hexagons.  The technique to sew them all together is the Y-seam method. The background is filled in with hexies and half hexies in Kona white.   It is a fun pattern and fun to sew.
I quilted on both sides of each diagonal seam in one direction in free motion, without the help of rulers, I might add.  I just eyeballed it all the way.  It's a bit wonky here and there, but so am I! I used Kona Hibiscus for the binding and added it entirely by machine.  Once it was washed and dried.... pure yumminess!  So soft and cuddly.

I had purchased a one metre cut of double wide Tula Pink backing from Tangled Blossoms Designs, right here in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, a while back, and I wanted to use it up so I added some Ardently Austin text print by Amanda Herring for Riley Blake to make the backing.  One of my fave text prints.  Love making pieced backings!

I am so happy with the way this quilt turned out.  Not sure where it will end up, but for now it is on my lap.

My sweet friend, Sheila of Sheila's Quilt World, is the hostess of  many a fabric postcard swap and the latest is a Christmas swap.  My swap partner is Lin from France.  Lin and I have been online buddies for a while now and it was a real pleasure to make something for her and to receive something that she made in return.  Lin is an awesome stitcher.  Her embroidery is just wonderful. You can't really see how pretty the card is that she made for me.  It is all sparkly and Christmassy.

The postcard that I made for her is tiny paper piecing, which I enjoy a lot.  That dark blue background is a really old metallic Hoffman print from many years ago.  It is still a fave of mine for Christmas projects and I still have quite a bit of it left.

Hope you had time today to make something quilty!
