My entry to the Blogger's Quilt Festival

For the very first time, I am entering a quilt in the Blogger's Quilt Festival,
AmysCreativeSide.com
organized by Amy of Amy's Creative Side.  Thanks Amy!

This quilt is called "My Improv Quilt".  Not an exciting name but a very exciting process for me.  I have been making quilts for 20 years and blogging about them for the past six years.  I quilt for my personal joy!

I am attracted to everything about quilting and like to try everything.  For the past few years, I have been watching the modern quilt movement from the sidelines and then last Fall a chapter of The Modern Quilt Guild was started in my city and I knew I had to join in.  I was totally inspired by all the colour and freedom.  I made a quilt top called "Basic Puzzle" designed by Amy Ellis.,
"Basic Puzzle"
and with the leftovers I started to make a pieced back and then I started to notice that I was designing another quilt top and not a back.  That is how "My Improv Quilt" came to be.

"MY IMPROV QUILT" -  My entry in the Modern Category Blogger's Quilt Festival - Spring 2014
Please excuse the fingers and shadowing.
I free-motion quilted pebbles on the negative space (Kona Ash)  and did jagged meandering on the pieced areas(mostly Kona solids)  The binding is two-colour.  For backing I used a grey and white Riley Blake chevron extrawide.
It measures 37 1/2" x 45 1/2".   What fun I had making this.  I see lots more modern quilting in my future.

Thanks for stopping by!
